what does your social media say about you?

is about make or break!

social media can hurt or help you in the job search. Ill
explain how it can do that, how it can help you or destroy that future job you hoping for before it evens begin. In my research for this topic I found out that 37% employers use social media to screen potential job candidates, and what they do is , they go to your profile and observe and judge from there what kind of personality you hold and they decide whether to hire you or not, if you present yourself professional or fit into their company culture, and then lucky you !

As we know social media is a primary vehicle of communications today so is no surprise that some recruiters and hiring agency are turning in... says rosemary Halenfner www.forbes.Jacquelyn

what not to say/post on your profile account

INAPPROPRIATENESS such as:

in appropriate photos/ adult content

Facebook post
images of drugs an alcohol (evidence of using)

drunken  post on Facebook

image posted on facebook

Racism/sexism hate of speech racism shocking violence threaten (DEFAMATION)

what is accepted and not accepted

Badmouthing someone, be careful not to do that on social media or insults someone because that is defamation which means is a statement of hatred towards someone which can ruin someone's reputation, is criminal offence .

Those mentioned are what companies call inappropriateness when they decide to hire you.

They are certain sites where you can use that can help you monitor and clean up all those things on your profile and delete them www.recruiter.com//what-does-your-social-media-say-about-you/
They are list of people who where being fired for what they posted or said on certain social platform, because we tend to believe just because is outside of the work doesn't affect it, but they do by getting fired for that, even if your Facebook might be protected, you wont know when you might slip up, so be careful not to shoot yourself on the foot because this kind of things they might came back and bite you and unfortunately professionally wise they might. lets be responsible and professional all the time. Not only do you have to monitor what you say but also focus on posting those things that will work on your advantage, build your strong media network.

is it really private? Is not fair I know but that is life!

my question is that should companies punish or rather judge candidates on social activities? because Kashmir Hills say if Facebook really is being used by employers as a primary tool to judge applicant, the results will be disturbing. www.forbes.com/keshmirHill/

  1. It's true, social media sites can work to your detriment. I have this particular problem because I run a brand and and what I do on my own profile can possibly have adverse effects on the brand.

  3. lerato can you explain to me, I still struggle to understand as to why employers have to compare your private life with work life,I mean what you do out of office hours is strictly private and confidential, isn't what they are doing an intrusion of privacy? what if I want to sue them of that, will I win them over?
